Apart from meditation we also played drama at New Year´s meditation retreat.

Intensive meditation retreats in summer 2009 meant a hard work, but also good fun to their participants.

Venerable Ottaranyana conducted a metta retreat in 2008 in the Czech Republic.

Venerable Ottaranyana Sayadaw

At the end of September Burmese buddhist monk Venerable Ottaranyana Sayadaw, the abbot of the Birmingham Buddhist Vihara, came to the Czech Republic. The local meditation groups organized his lectures in Prague, Brno and Olomouc. Further on, accompanied by two lay instructors, he taught the loving-kindness meditation at the meditation retreat near the town Litovel. More than thirty meditators took part in this three-day retreat.

The course is focused on the practice of various tranquillity meditation methods (samatha). Apart from the basic techniques such as mindfulness of inand out-breathing meditation (anapana-sati), walking meditation (cankamana) and loving kindness meditation (metta-bhavana) the participants will acquaint themselves with the coloured discs (kasina) and the element kasina. The tranquillity meditation brings a temporary purification of the mind, it develops its faculties (indriyâ) and, as a result, it prepares the mind for a better progress in insight meditation.
